Kelly Spaihts is a junior Sociology major at Eastern Tsuga College and a member of the Astraea Society. She is the protagonist of Making the Grades: Kelly's Unveiling, the first book in the Making the Grades series. Her story begins when she misses a pop quiz in PSYCH 250 and enters a remediation arrangement with Professor William Taylor that escalates across the semester into something neither of them fully anticipated.

Description

Kelly has long blonde hair and blue eyes. She has an hourglass figure, described as athletic and full-figured rather than slight, with broader shoulders. Her Camera Noctis wristband was blue, indicating submissive first-timer, worn on her left wrist.

Kelly's academic path is not one she chose with passion but out of indecision and pressure from her mother's career in a related field. She has the potential to excel but typically coasts through college on social connections and charm. Her membership in the Astraea Society brings pressure to maintain a specific image both socially and academically.

Her relationship history has shaped her significantly. An early college affair with Bastian Keller, a married graduate student, was secretive and intense. It left Kelly feeling conflicted about trust, intimacy, and control, and made it difficult to pursue normal romantic relationships afterward. Kelly misses a pop quiz in Taylor's PSYCH 250 course and enters a remediation arrangement that begins with cleaning visits and escalates through a 500-question sexuality assessment, a remote vibrator week, masturbation in his campus office, a deliberately failed quiz retake, and a task at the Astro Club. She formalizes an independent study with Taylor and is eventually brought to Camera Noctis for a Clandestine night.

Professor William Taylor

Professor William Taylor is the central antagonist of Kelly's story and the architect of her independent study arrangement. He identified her susceptibility, exploited the power differential of his academic authority, and guided her through an escalating series of tasks and experiences. He is a skeptic who does not believe in the occult dimension of Verdant but benefits from the Hemlock Veil regardless.

Cassandra Blake

Cassandra Blake is Kelly's Astraea Society Big Sister. She had her own prior arrangement with Taylor and disclosed it only partially to Kelly. She confronted Taylor at the end of Kelly's semester, did not threaten exposure, asked him to end things properly and make Kelly stop seeing Mark, and refused to shake his hand. She graduated without fully explaining what she knew.

Bridgette Hutchinson

Bridgette Hutchinson moved from Astraea foil to Kelly's dominant partner across the arc of the three books. She organized the Strip Relay out of genuine care for Kelly, negotiated her own terms with Taylor, instigated the paddle punishment, and used the joint final project to establish a real D/s dynamic. By the end of Book Three she had invited Kelly to be her roommate the following semester.

Bastian Keller

Bastian Keller was Kelly's first college affair. His influence on her views of trust, intimacy, and asymmetrical desire prepared the psychological ground for her response to Taylor.

Mark Rogers

Mark Rogers was Kelly's summer hookup, conducted behind Stacy Cantrell's back. Their arrangement eroded its own rules over time. Kelly ended things per her agreement with Taylor. Mark noticed enough, including the butt plug and a telling slip during a moment in the grove, that he may have pieced together more than he has said.

Chelsea Zhou

Chelsea Zhou is a Strawbridge Sentinel journalist who cornered Kelly during the Astraea streak punishment and negotiated an anonymity deal. Kelly agreed to meet her for coffee and revealed more than Taylor would have sanctioned. Chelsea now has Kelly's name, school, and an article connecting ETC to a secret organization. She is a live threat to Taylor's operation.
