The Strawbridge Sentinel is the student newspaper of Strawbridge College. It is overseen by faculty advisor Dr. Bruce McKinney, a journalism professor with a 20-year crusade publishing conspiracy theory articles about House Subconium and Verdant, Connecticut. Reporter Chelsea Zhou works for the Sentinel and is pursuing a series on kink culture on college campuses. The paper's coverage of ETC and Verdant, shaped by McKinney's long-running obsession, represents the most sustained external journalistic interest in House Subconium's true nature.
The McKinney connection
The Sentinel is not a neutral campus paper. Its faculty advisor has spent over two decades building files on House Subconium, and his influence on the paper's editorial direction regarding Verdant and ETC is significant. McKinney's files date back decades and reportedly name the founder of Astraea House. His use of student journalists like Chelsea Zhou to pursue leads he cannot credibly publish under his own name is a recurring pattern.
Chelsea Zhou's work
Chelsea Zhou is the Sentinel's most active reporter on the Verdant beat. Her encounter with Kelly Spaihts during the Strawbridge streak produced the paper's most concrete and current piece on ETC to date. The article was published with censored photos and protected Kelly's identity, but Chelsea retains far more information than she published. Her ongoing kink-on-campus series, approved by her editor, positions Kelly as the intended kick-off subject.
The article is not the first time the Sentinel has touched on ETC's hidden world. It is, however, the first piece grounded in direct firsthand contact with a named ETC student. It represents a significant escalation of an ongoing effort rather than a fresh start.
