About

Chelsea Zhou is a student journalist at Strawbridge College and a writer for the Strawbridge Sentinel. She becomes a significant threat to Professor William Taylor after her encounter with Kelly Spaihts during the Strawbridge streak in Making the Grades: Kelly's Unveiling. Bold, relentless, and skilled at finding stories, Chelsea ends Part Two in possession of information that could unravel Taylor's carefully maintained operation at Eastern Tsuga College.

Role in Kelly's Unveiling

Chelsea corners Kelly on a bridge during Kelly's streak across the Strawbridge College campus. She observes and documents what she sees, and subsequently publishes an article in the Strawbridge Sentinel with censored photos. Kelly's identity is protected in the published piece, but Chelsea has Kelly's name, her school, and a story connecting ETC to a secret organization.

The article is the first public record linking Eastern Tsuga College to organized secretive activity. It is carefully written, but Chelsea clearly knows more than she published.

Threat assessment

By the end of Kelly's Unveiling, Chelsea represents a live and unresolved threat. She has:

  • Kelly's full name
  • Kelly's school
  • A published article connecting ETC to a secret organization
  • Censored photos from the streak
  • Direct personal contact with Kelly

Taylor is aware that Chelsea exists. How much he knows about what she has gathered has not been established in canon. Chelsea's next move and whether she pursues the story further are open questions heading into the rest of the series.

Personality

Chelsea is described as bold and relentless. She moves quickly, she identifies leverage, and she does not back off. Her decision to publish a censored version of the story rather than the full account suggests she is strategic as well as aggressive. She is holding something back, and that restraint is as threatening as the article itself.

Faculty advisor

Chelsea's work at the Strawbridge Sentinel is overseen by faculty advisor Dr. Bruce McKinney, a journalism professor at Strawbridge College with a long and peculiar history with Verdant and House Subconium. McKinney has spent over 20 years publishing conspiracy theory articles about House Subconium. He applied for a position at Eastern Tsuga College approximately 30 years ago and was rejected. He achieved tenure at Strawbridge before beginning his crusade, making legal challenges to his work impossible. ETC officially dismisses him as "Strawbridge College's eccentric and imaginative professor of so-called journalism."

Whether McKinney is aware of Chelsea's story and its connection to ETC has not been established in canon. His files on House Subconium date back decades and reportedly name the founder of Astraea House. The question of whether his long-running investigation ever gets close enough to the truth to become a genuine threat to House Subconium is open.
