About
Cassandra Blake is a senior member of the Astraea Society at Eastern Tsuga College and Kelly Spaihts's Big Sister within the society. She is one of the most morally complex secondary characters in Making the Grades: Kelly's Unveiling. She knows more than she discloses, acts to protect Kelly, and ultimately chooses not to expose Professor William Taylor when she has the chance.
Background
Before the events of Kelly's Unveiling, Cassie had her own arrangement with Professor William Taylor. The details were only partially disclosed to Kelly. How far it went, what it cost Cassie, and what she learned from it have not been fully established in canon.
Her experience with Taylor shapes everything about how she handles Kelly's situation, including her partial disclosures, her watching brief, and her final decision to confront Taylor privately rather than expose him publicly.
Role in Kelly's Unveiling
Cassie operates throughout Kelly's story as a figure who is simultaneously protective and withholding. She is aware that Kelly has entered an arrangement with Taylor. She monitors the situation without intervening directly until the end.
When Cassie potentially spots Taylor at the Astro Club during Kelly's task, it sets off the tribunal that follows. Whether that sighting was accidental or deliberate on Cassie's part has not been established in canon.
At the conclusion of Kelly's arc, Cassie confronts Taylor directly. She chooses not to expose him, protecting Kelly from the fallout that public exposure would bring while also, perhaps, protecting herself. She graduates and leaves the immediate situation unresolved.
What Cassie knows
Cassie knows more about Taylor's methods than anyone else in Kelly's orbit. She knows enough to confront him. She knows enough to have chosen silence before Kelly came along. The full extent of what she knows about Taylor, about the Astraea Society's deeper history, and about Verdant itself has not been established in canon.
Open questions
- Did Cassie deliberately engineer the Astro Club sighting to force a resolution?
- What exactly happened in her own arrangement with Taylor?
- Does she stay in Verdant after graduating or leave?
- How much does she know about the occult history of the Astraea Society and Verdant?
