About

The Orders and Societies are a collection of student organizations at Eastern Tsuga College, each occupying one of the seven grand mansions on Elysian Road. They exist because ETC banned all Greek-letter fraternities and sororities in the late 1970s following a series of hazing incidents that resulted in student deaths. The organizations relocated off-campus, rebranded under names drawn from Greek mythology, and established the Pantheon Pact as their governing framework. The ban technically holds. The organizations never went away. The renaming was explicitly intended as a provocation toward the administration.

On the surface they are campus organizations. Beneath that they are some of the oldest continuously operating social institutions in Verdant, occupying houses with histories their current members do not know.

Purpose and structure

Each Order or Society operates independently with its own culture, rituals, and internal hierarchy. They are bound to one another by the Pantheon Pact, which establishes autonomous internal tribunals, conflict resolution mechanisms, and inter-organizational cooperation including shared traditions that rotate across all seven houses.

The Pact gives each organization significant autonomy from ETC's administration. Matters of member conduct are handled internally. This protection has allowed the organizations to operate in ways that would not survive university scrutiny.

Membership

Each organization draws its membership primarily from ETC students, though membership is not always limited to current students. Eligibility requirements, membership caps, and internal hierarchies vary by organization. The Astraea Society has a documented cap of 35 members with approximately 20 living in the house per semester. Other organizations' membership structures have not been detailed in canon.

The seven organizations each occupy one of the Elysian Road mansions, named after the organization that inhabits it. Known houses include Astraea House, Kratos House, and Nyx Society House. The full occupancy map has not been established in canon.

Astraea Society

Named for the Greek goddess of justice, innocence, and purity. The oldest women's organization at ETC. Headquarters at Astraea House, the best preserved of the seven mansions. Contains a ritual basement with a central stone pentacle. Known members include Kelly Spaihts, Cassandra Blake, and Bridgette Hutchinson.

Order of Kratos

Named for the Greek god of strength and power. Men's order. Headquarters at Kratos House, formerly the second home and primary residence of Elias Roarke, leader of the Order of Aetherion, who lived there from approximately 1900 until his death in 1929. Current members have no knowledge of the house's history. Known members include Mark Rogers and Philip Reynolds.

Eirene Society

Named for the Greek goddess of peace. Details not established in canon beyond one named member, Tiffany Crowly.

Order of Hypnos

Named for the Greek god of sleep. Details not established in canon.

Nyx Society

Named for the Greek goddess of night. Headquarters at Nyx Society House, the site of the unsolved murder of the Verdant Preservation Society President in the 1970s. Details beyond this not established in canon.

Order of Dionysus

Named for the Greek god of wine and festivity. Details not established in canon.

Seventh organization

A seventh mansion on Elysian Road is occupied by an organization whose name has not been established in canon.

Outside the Pact

The Order of Aetherion operates at ETC entirely outside the Pantheon Pact framework, consistent with the historical organization's status as an outsider that never aligned with Verdant's established occult infrastructure. Its modern members have no knowledge of the organization's origins or its historical role as a rival to the Order of the Hemlock. It does not occupy one of the seven Elysian Road mansions.

Relationship to the occult

The mansions on Elysian Road were built by wealthy families with documented occult ties. Several of the houses have architectural features, including the pentacle in Astraea House's basement, that predate the student organizations' occupancy and suggest intentional occult design. Whether the current membership of each organization is aware of this history varies widely. Most are not. The Order of Kratos occupies a house whose previous resident was planning to weaponize the Hemlock Veil before being killed to prevent it. None of them know this.
