About

Eli's Dive Bar, officially still operating under the name Avery's Social Club, is a cash-only dive bar at the northern edge of Verdant, Connecticut. It is one of the most distinctly local establishments in Verdant, drawing blue-collar workers, the Feral Jackals motorcycle club, and a regular group of women led by Mama. It sits well outside the tourist circuit and even further from the ETC student world. It is the kind of bar that has its own rules, its own regulars, and its own social ecosystem that outsiders enter at their own risk.

Description

Eli's is dim, worn, and cash only. The furniture shows its age. Broken pinball machines occupy corners that no one has bothered to clear. A single shared bathroom serves the whole bar: two urinals, one stall. The original Avery's Social Club signage is still visible under the paint Eli sprayed over it when he took over. The atmosphere is unwelcoming to strangers by default and comfortable to regulars by long habit.

History

Avery's Social Club was established in 1981 by Avery Tadych as an upscale local gathering spot. The upscale ambition did not survive contact with its clientele or its neighborhood. Elijah Wolski took over in 1989 under disputed circumstances. Some say he forced Tadych out. The original sign was spray-painted over; the text is still visible beneath. Wolski has run the bar as Eli's ever since, abandoning any pretense of its upscale origins and leaning into the dive-bar identity the place had always been moving toward.

Eli's background beyond the bar is murky. Unconfirmed rumors circulate about involvement in prostitution, smuggling, and organized crime connections. None of this has been established as canon.

Regular clientele

The bar has a stable and distinct regular crowd:

  • Mama — The central figure among the regular group of women who drink at Eli's. Commands respect across all factions in the bar. Details beyond this have not been established in canon.
  • Beckys — A term used by the gang of lesbians at Eli's for young, attractive women they perceive as sexuality tourists.
  • Marge — Named regular.
  • Kyle — Named regular.
  • Feral Jackals MC — The motorcycle club drinks at Eli's while their clubhouse is located separately, approximately halfway between Verdant and Strawbridge College on the route north.

Feral Jackals connection

The Feral Jackals motorcycle club is a fixture at Eli's. Their actual clubhouse is not at the bar but on a separate property roughly halfway to Strawbridge. Eli's functions as their Verdant drinking home. A Feral Jackals initiate known as Prospect was removed from the bar by Bear Cat for disrespecting a guest, confirming the club's internal hierarchy operates even in the bar setting.

Connection to the SSU

Eli's Dive Bar sits at the northern edge of Verdant's geography and at the edge of the SSU's established narrative territory. Its clientele, the Feral Jackals, and the figure of Mama represent a strand of Verdant life that is neither the college world nor the occult world but intersects with both in ways not yet fully developed in canon.

Canon notes

  • The circumstances of Eli Wolski's 1989 takeover from Avery Tadych have not been fully established
  • Eli's rumored criminal connections have not been confirmed in canon
