About
Elysian Road is a historic street on the eastern edge of Verdant, Connecticut, lined with seven grand mansions built between 1900 and 1920. Each mansion is currently occupied by one of Verdant's Orders or Societies. The street is one of the most important locations in the Subconium Shared Universe — it is where the organized occult life of Verdant is concentrated, and where the social hierarchies of Eastern Tsuga College have their most permanent roots.
History
The mansions on Elysian Road were built during a period when a number of wealthy families were drawn to Verdant, attracted by rumors of the town's mystical energies and believed connections to ley lines. These families were rumored to be practitioners of occult magic seeking to harness the town's supernatural power amplified by the presence of The Hemlock Veil.
In 1929, the most prominent of these families, the Roarkes, met a catastrophic end. Elias Roarke and his entire family were found dead in what was officially ruled a murder-suicide. Local rumors persist that his death was connected to his dabbling in dark magic. Within canon, the death of Elias Roarke is connected to the Delacroix family — an unnamed Delacroix grandmother used The Anklet of Inevitable Accord to kill him in 1929. Within a year of the Roarke deaths, all of the wealthy families quietly abandoned their homes on Elysian Road.
The mansions subsequently passed into the hands of the Orders and Societies that now occupy them, becoming the permanent institutional homes of Verdant's organized occult and social communities.
The seven mansions
The full occupancy map of all seven mansions has not been established in canon. Known occupants include:
- Astraea House — headquarters of the Astraea Society; contains a ritual basement with a stone pentacle
- Additional mansions occupied by other members of the Pantheon Pact orders
Relationship to Eastern Tsuga College
The Orders and Societies headquartered on Elysian Road draw their membership primarily from Eastern Tsuga College students, though membership is not limited to current students. The street represents the physical manifestation of a social and occult world that runs parallel to and beneath official college life.
The Pantheon Pact
The organizations occupying Elysian Road are bound by an agreement known as the Pantheon Pact, the terms of which have not been fully established in canon. The Order of Aetherion, notably, is not a member of the Pantheon Pact — consistent with its status as an outside organization with no knowledge of its own occult origins.
