About
Charter Oak Forest is a dense old-growth woodland that presses in against Verdant from the west and northwest. It forms the back boundary of the Elysian Road properties, including Astraea House, whose backyard terminates directly at the tree line. The forest is named for the Charter Oak, the historic Connecticut white oak in whose hollow the colonial charter was legendarily hidden from the British governor in 1687.
The forest is close enough to campus that students occasionally walk its edges, but its density and atmosphere discourage casual exploration. It functions as a natural barrier and a boundary marker for several of Verdant's most significant locations.
Connection to the SSU
Charter Oak Forest backs directly onto the Elysian Road mansions and by extension onto the Verdant Scholars Memorial Grove, which sits at the western edge of the Eastern Tsuga College campus where the forest presses in most closely. The forest's relationship to the Hemlock Veil's original casting site and to the occult geography of Verdant has not been fully established in canon.
Canon notes
- Ownership and public access status not established
