About
House Subconium is one of Verdant's oldest and most secretive institutions. Some say the House was present before Verdant even had a name. The organization holds the true secret history of the region — preserving stories, both ancient and modern, that the Chamber of Commerce, Eastern Tsuga College administration, and Verdant town council would prefer remain untold.
House Subconium publicly presents itself as nothing more than a posh members-only BDSM club — Camera Noctis — operating out of Subconium House on the eastern edge of town. This cover provides a plausible explanation for gatherings while also serving as a genuine venue for power-dynamic exploration among Verdant's residents.
Mission
House Subconium holds the most complete understanding of The Hemlock Veil and the supernatural machinery beneath Verdant. Its primary functions are:
- Preserving the true history of Verdant
- Maintaining and renewing The Hemlock Veil every ten years
- Safeguarding dangerous occult artifacts
- Operating Camera Noctis as a public-facing cover
History
House Subconium assumed stewardship of the Hemlock Veil after the Order of the Hemlock dissolved in the 1970s. The failure to renew the Veil in 1971 and 1981 — before House Subconium fully took over — led directly to the Satanic Panic reaching Verdant.
The primary source for the true history of Verdant is the personal diaries of Eleanor Ashburne, now held by House Subconium. These were passed to the organization by Margot Delacroix, who found them in the Delacroix family vault as a teenager.
